ISO742x 可提供符合 UL 標準的長達 1 分鐘且高達 2500VRMS 的電流隔離,以及符合 VDE 標準的 4242VPK 隔離。這些器件有 2 個隔離通道。每個通道有一個邏輯輸入和輸出緩沖器,這兩個器件由一個硅二極管(SiO2) 絕緣隔柵進行分離。通過與隔離電源一起使用,這些器件可防止數據總線或者其它電路上的噪音電流進入本地接地并干擾或者損壞敏感電路。ISO7420 的兩個通道方向相同,而 ISO7421 的兩個通道方向相反。如果出現輸入功率或信號損失,則后綴為“F”的器件默認輸出“低”電平,后綴沒有“F”的器件則默認輸出“高”電平。ISO742x 未集成噪聲濾波器,因而傳播延遲相對短暫。
這些器件具有晶體管晶體管邏輯電路 (TTL) 輸入閾值,工作電壓范圍為 3V 到 5.5V。當由一個 3.3V 電源供電時,所有輸入均為 5V 耐壓。
