Venice

Venice (English /ˈvɛnɪs/ VEN-iss; Italian: Venezia [veˈnɛttsja]) is a city in northeastern Italy sited on a group of 118 small islands separated by canals and linked by bridges. It is located in the marshy Venetian Lagoon which stretches along the shoreline, between the mouths of the Po and the Piave Rivers. Venice is renowned for the beauty of its setting, its architecture, and its artwork. The city in its entirety is listed as a World Heritage Site, along with its lagoon.

Venice is the capital of the Veneto region. In 2009, there were 270,098 people residing in Venice's comune (the population estimate of 272,000 inhabitants includes the population of the whole Comune of Venezia; of whom around 60,000 live in the historic city of Venice (Centro storico); 176,000 in Terraferma (the mainland), mostly in the large frazioni (roughly equivalent to "parishes" or "wards" in other countries) of Mestre and Marghera; and 31,000 on other islands in the lagoon). Together with Padua and Treviso, the city is included in the Padua-Treviso-Venice Metropolitan Area (PATREVE), with a total population of 2,600,000. PATREVE is only a statistical metropolitan area without any degree of autonomy.

Venezia (Rome Metro)

Venezia is a planned metro station on Line C of the Rome Metro system. Part of the third phase of the line its opening is not yet determined. The abandoned Line D was supposed to intersect Line C at Venezia metro station.

Location

Venezia station will be located underneath the Piazza Venezia, a large square in Pigna, rione IX of Rome. Upon its completion, it will be the closest station to the Monument to Vittorio Emanuele II, the Roman Forum, and the Capitoline Hill.

History

In 2009, as part of preliminary works for the station, a series of archaeological excavations were carried out. During these digs, archaeologists unearthed the remains of Emperor Hadrian's Athenaeum.

Apartment

An apartment (in American and Canadian English) or a flat (in British English) is a self-contained housing unit (a type of residential real estate) that occupies only part of a building, correctly, on a single level without a stair. Such a building may be called an apartment building, apartment complex (in American English), apartment house (in American English), block of flats, tower block, high-rise or, occasionally mansion block (in British English), especially if it consists of many apartments for rent. In Scotland it is called a block of flats or, if it's a traditional sandstone building, a tenement, which has a pejorative connotation elsewhere. Apartments may be owned by an owner/occupier, by leasehold tenure or rented by tenants (two types of housing tenure).

Terminology

The term apartment is favoured in North America (although flat is used in the case of a unit which is part of a house containing two or three units, typically one to a floor) and also is the preferred term in Ireland. In the UK, the term apartment is more usual in professional real estate and architectural circles where otherwise the term flat is commonly, but not exclusively, for an apartment without a stair (hence a 'flat' apartment). Technically multi-storey apartments are referred to as 'duplex' (or 'triplex') indicating the number of floors within the property. Usage generally follows the British in Singapore, Hong Kong and most Commonwealth nations.

Apartment (Young the Giant song)

"Apartment" is a song by American alternative rock band Young the Giant from their 2010 self-titled debut album. Written by the band and released as a single in 2012, it peaked at number 26 on the Billboard Alternative Songs chart. Two music videos for "Apartment" were filmed, and the song was remixed in 2011 by Captain Cuts.

Reception

Released in February 2012, "Apartment" peaked at number 26 on Billboard's Alternative Songs chart.Consequence of Sound's Caitlin Meyer described the song as "a seemingly average track that quickly crescendos into an impressive showcase of Gadhia’s vocal range." Chris White of musicOMH called it "an instantly infectious slice of quintessentially American alternative rock." In 2011, Young the Giant performed the song on Jimmy Kimmel Live! (January), on Later... with Jools Holland (May), and on MTV's Unplugged: Young the Giant, which began streaming online in November. A remixed version of the song by Captain Cuts appeared on Young the Giant's Remix EP, released in 2011.

Apartment (film)

Apartment is a 2010 Bollywood thriller film directed by Jag Mundhra. The film stars Tanushree Dutta, Neetu Chandra, Rohit Roy and Anupam Kher in the lead roles. The film was released on 23 April 2010, under the banner of Magna Films. It is based on the Hollywood movie, Single White Female. As of May 2010, the film could only collect Rs. 12.5 million and was declared a flop at the box office.

Plot

Preeti Sengupta (Tanushree Dutta) is an air hostess living with her boyfriend Karan Malhotra (Rohit Roy). They share a nice 2BHK apartment in the northern suburbs of Mumbai and are befriended by their elderly neighbor Madhusudan Tanha (Anupam Kher), a struggling poet and lyricist. Tanha is a loner living with his only companion, a Persian cat whom he lovingly calls Shehzadi.

Preeti is possessive and has issues with trust. When she mistakenly suspects her boyfriend to be unfaithful, she throws him out of the house, but soon realizes she can't afford the apartment rent on her own. On the advice of a fellow airhostess, she advertises for a tenant to share her apartment. Enter Neha Bhardwaj (Neetu Chandra), a modest small-town girl asking for accommodation. Very impressed by her simplicity and respectfulness, Preeti believes she has found a perfect roommate. The two girls soon become close - their camaraderie leads them to become companions.
